Before the final, we had another pre-jury which was again online. For this pre-jury, we tried to improve our diagrams and collages and tried to integrate them with drawings. We were appreciated by the jury for presentation and also collages and other techniques. The main question about the project was “why the spaces literaly coming to us?” that is a question we should work on. Also, we got critique about the drawings of the units.
You can see what HELIX did for this pre-jury below.
For the course Arch372 – Building Technologies in Architecture, as group we are assigned to analyze the previous semester project, which is Culinary Center in Gaziantep, in terms of accessibility and Universal Design Criteria. As group of two, Doğa and I worked on the Doğa’s project and re-design some part of it according to assignment.
You can see the presentation below.
For Arch432-Mediascapes course, we are assigned to look ambiguity concepts in our lives and produce data of this concept. We firstly read “Muğlak Standartlar Enstitüsü” and “Betonart” journal. I tried to visualize the square meter of 3+1 and as you can see there is a lot of conditions for it even they all are called as 3+1.
In first, after assigning on a project that is related with co-living, I was thinking on a calmer project but now it is evolving to somehow a utopia of 1960s. We are affected from Archigram a lot and then the collages come to us. So, you know we are having fun with our project a lot.
Also, since we are having fun, we thought the inhabitants could have fun and we designed a game line. It is somehow an evolved version of the road that we discussed in pre-jury and turned to a game line rather than a road. It is a line that work on the different levels. There is another line which is blue line that is organizing the topography. You can see the relations below.
After the site trip, as the studio we move to second stage of the project: designing the project according to given human profiles. We are assigned to suggest some support functions for the design that is a response for young and seniors. Now, I will talk about what we did;
After the pre-jury, we changed the ideas about the renewable part. A suggestion from the jury was about complementary part that is moving. So, we thought that complementary parts can also be moveable and attach with the units as well. The moveable parts of the complementary units are called as renewable spaces, since now we increase the usage time of them. We thought that, when the moveable parts are in the complementary units, they create a hall, when it moves the area still be used.
We describe the ratio of fragmentation according to needs of youngs and seniors. For example, we thought that the eating area is used by both profiles, on the other hand the gym can generally sed by youngs. We tried to fragment the complementary areas according to this idea.
Also, we tried to locate the complementary part and decide their square meter according to how many people will use them. Since we have some fragmentable complementary parts and unfragmentable complementary parts, we though that unfragmentable parts could be away from the units, while the fragmentable one is close to units in order to decrease the distance of moveable parts. We decide the square meter of the complementary parts according to how many people will use them. The bubble diagram below is showing these relations;
Another diagram we did is the time and the users in the units and complementary parts. You can see below that, when the time changes the people in the spaces is changing, too.
Lastly, we did a diagram to show how these fragmented parts are moving since it is hard to explain by only words.
As HELIX we like making moveable things, that’s why we have lots of gifs 😊
